At Slovak Business Agency (SBA), we support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at every stage of their business journey. Since 1993, we have provided valuable services to thousands of companies. Our mission is to foster your business growth, innovation, and long-term development.


Our Mission

  • Create an environment in which entrepreneurs and family businesses can grow and be rewarded
  • Ensure that honest entrepreneurs who have gone bankrupt can quickly receive a second chance
  • Develop regulations based on the principle of “Think Small First”
  • Ensure public authorities respond to SME needs
  • Adapt public policy tools to SME requirements, facilitate SME participation in public procurement, and better utilize state aid resources
  • Improve SME access to finance and create a legal and business environment that supports timely payments in commercial transactions
  • Encourage SMEs to better exploit opportunities offered by the Single Market
  • Promote skills development and all forms of innovation within SMEs
  • Enable SMEs to turn environmental challenges into business opportunities
  • Encourage and support SMEs to benefit from growing markets

Our Milestones

1993

Creation through a joint initiative of the EU and the Slovak government

The founding members are the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, the Association of Entrepreneurs of Slovakia, and the Slovak Trade Union.

1994

The Establishment of the National Holding Fund

We established it as a capital support program for businesses using funds from the PHARE program.

1995

We are launching programs for SMEs

The launch of ongoing advisory services for SMEs in various forms.

1997

Launch of a microloan program

We began supporting businesses through microloans.

1999

The inaugural edition of Slovak Women Entrepreneurs

This is the first time we are organizing the „Slovak Businesswoman“ competition.

2002

Establishing business incubators

The launch of a network of business incubators through the Phare national program.

2008

We are joining the EEN network

The network provides advice and information on doing business in EU countries and beyond.

2013

We are becoming an ambassador for SMEs

We initiated the establishment of a Working Group on the Small Business Act.

2014

We are launching the Startup Sharks initiative

A program for startups aimed at promoting innovative and competitive business ideas.

2016

Implementation of National Projects

The service portfolio now includes national projects funded by EU structural funds, offering a wide range of services for businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

2018

Consulting for Family Businesses

We have expanded our non-financial services to include support for family businesses.

2021

Support for entrepreneurship education

The program provides financial support for projects that foster entrepreneurship and soft skills among students and teachers.

2023
